FIRST HALF 2023: FRSC RECORDS 15.5% REDUCTION IN FATALITIES , 14% DECREASE IN ROAD CRASHES AND 14% DECREASE IN NUMBER OF INJURED VICTIMS  In what could be tagged a  successful outing in the operational front during the first six months of the year 2023, the Federal Road Safety Corps has recorded a  decline in the total number of road traffic crashes, total number of injuries and fatalities as well, when compared with the same period in 2022. According to FRSC road traffic crash dashboard, within the period under consideration, the Corps recorded a total of 5,700 road traffic crashes as against 6,627 in the same period in the year 2022, representing 14% decrease. In the same vein, from January to June 2023, the Corps also achieved 14% reduction in number of people rescued with injuries, having rescued a total of 16,716 in 2023 against 19,440 injured victims in the first half of the year 2022. Lekki port receives first transshipment vessel

The management of Lekki Deep Seaport has announced the arrival of Rimbaud, the first transshipment vessel to call at the container terminal of the deep seaport. A statement by the port said that the vessel owned by CMA CGM shipping company, arrived at the terminal on Thursday. The statement added that the vessel came with cargo from two of the largest container shipping lines in the world, CMA CGM and Maersk. According to the statement, the vessel was carrying 411 twenty-foot equivalent units of transshipment cargo and had a nominal container handling capacity of 6,900 TEUs The statement read in parts, “The vessel, which arrived at approximately 1.00 pm on Thursday, June 29, 2023, was carrying cargo from two of the largest container shipping lines in the world, CMA CGM and Maersk. Arising from the report of the ill-fated fatal crash that occured along the Maiduguri-Damaturu route, the Acting Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Ali Biu has decried the incessant violation of legal speed limit as such, directed Commanding Officers to step up nationwide special operations to apprehend violators  and impound their vehicles. He stated this following the wanton violation of established traffic rules by motorists which led to the avoidable crash that occured on 22 November, 2022 at 0940HRS, along Maiduguri-Damaturu route by Jakana 45 Benesheik-Maiduguri, Borno State. According to preliminary investigation conducted into the fatal crash, the avoidable menace involved 2 Toyota Busses and a Volkswagen Golf 3 leading to a fire outbreak that burnt most of the victims to death.
