The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed profound sadness and commiserated with the Kano State Government and the families of the travelers who lost their lives in a tragic lone road crash that might have occurred as a result of fatigue and excessive speed as a result of long night trip. This devastating incident which serves as a poignant reminder of the need for collective action against road crashes happened on 31 May, 2025 at Gadar Yankifi on the Kaduna-Kano expressway at exactly 1230HRS. The crash involved a coaster bus with registration number KN 041 A17 belonging to Kano State Government had 24 people on board comprising of 23 Male adults and 1 female adult. FG Secures $747m loan for Lagos-Calabar Highway construction

By Emma Ujah The Federal Government has secured a $747 million loan to finance Phase 1, Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, stretching from Victoria Island to Eleko Village. The Ministry of Finance announced the development on Wednesday, disclosing that the facility was arranged by Deutsche Bank. According to a statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Mohammed Manga, the deal represents the largest syndicated road infrastructure loan in Nigeria’s history. “This milestone signals growing global investor confidence in Nigeria’s reform agenda and infrastructure development pipeline,” the ministry stated. Deutsche Bank acted as Global Coordinator, Initial Mandated Lead Arranger, and Bookrunner, joining other regional and international financiers in the syndicate. Nigeria’s oil rig count hits 46 – NUPRC

THE Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), says the nation’s oil production rig has risen from eight in 2021 to 46 in July, 2025. Mr Gbenga Komolafe, Commission Chief Executive (CCE),  disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja at the inauguration of a media workshop organised for journalists covering the oil and gas sector. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rig count is a key metric for measuring vibrancy and performance in the oil and gas industry. The rig count which is a key equipment on which the oil is drilled reveals the level of vibrancy and the activities in the industry. According to the commission’s data, about 46 active rigs are driving the current oil production in Nigeria. Komolafe, however, attributed the steady growth in the rig count to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) enactment in 2021, and the commission’s commitment geared towards increasing oil production in the country. The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed has issued a stern warning to motorists to pay their fines to designated banks and stop attempting to bribe its patrol operatives, nor entice them with financial benefits as well as other gratifications when arrested for violating traffic regulations. He maintained that FRSC has a zero-tolerance policy for bribery and corruption, and it is completely against the values, ethics and standard operating procedures of the Corps for its personnel to be given any form of gratification while on duty.  As such, any motorist found attempting to bribe FRSC personnel will be arrested and prosecuted in line with extant provisions in the Corps' Establishment Act (2007), as the Corps does not, and will not tolerate any form of corruption whatsoever. This great recognition was conferred at the ongoing 1st General Assembly of the Continental Road Safety body holding in Lusaka, Zambia from 26 – 27 June 2025.  This historic appointment marks a new era of collaboration and coordination among African nations in the quest to reduce road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities across the continent.
