Intervention Unto Restoration" by Rev. Prof. James Nda Jacob
Date: March 23, 2025
Venue: Foursquare Gospel Church, Wuse District, Abuja.
Introduction
In a warm and Godly reception, the Senior pastor and
District Overseer of Wuse, Rev. Dr. Babatunde Idowu introduced
Rev. Prof. James Nda Jacob, the District Overseer of
Kubwa District and Northern Regional Coordinator of Foursquare Gospel Church,
to the congregation. Rev. Prof. James Jacob, delivered a profound sermon titled
"Divine Intervention Unto Restoration." The message, rooted in
biblical truth and personal testimony, emphasized the transformative power of
prayer and divine intervention in the lives of believers. The sermon was a call
to trust in God’s faithfulness, even in the midst of adversity, and to embrace
prayer as a pathway to divine favour and restoration.
Scriptural Foundation
The sermon was anchored in several key scriptures,
which provided a robust theological framework for the message:
1. Psalm 126:1-6
A psalm of ascent that speaks of God’s restoration of His people,
turning their mourning into joy.
2. Isaiah 43:18-19 A reminder that God is doing a new
thing, even in the midst of desolation.
3. Psalm 30:1-2 A declaration of God’s deliverance and
healing.
4. 2 Chronicles 20:20 A call to trust in the Lord and
His prophets for victory.
5. Psalm 23:1-7 A reassurance of God’s guidance and
provision in every situation.
Key Themes and Analysis
1. Divine Intervention and Restoration
Rev. Prof. Jacob emphasized that divine intervention
is God’s active involvement in human affairs, particularly in situations where
individuals are helpless. He used the story of David (Psalm 30:1-2) to
illustrate how God can restore what has been lost or stolen. David’s faith and
obedience in pursuing his enemies, as instructed by God, led to the recovery of
all that had been taken from him. This narrative underscores the importance of
trusting in God’s timing and instructions, even when circumstances seem
dire.
2. Prayer and Praise as Tools for Breakthrough
The sermon highlighted the power of prayer and praise
in unlocking divine intervention. The story of Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:20)
was analyzed to demonstrate how corporate prayer and worship can lead to
miraculous victories. Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah faced an overwhelming
enemy, but through prayer and praise, God intervened and granted them victory
without a fight. This serves as a reminder that prayer is not just a religious
ritual but a means of drawing near to God and inviting His intervention.
3. Captivity and Liberation
Rev. Prof. Jacob defined captivity as being in a state
of helplessness, whether emotionally, physically, or spiritually. He referenced
Paul and Silas’s imprisonment (Acts 16:25-26) to show how prayer and praise can
break chains and bring liberation. Despite their dire circumstances, Paul and
Silas prayed and sang hymns, leading to a divine intervention that freed them
and transformed the jailer’s life. This illustrates that no situation is beyond
God’s ability to intervene and restore.
4. Gratitude and Trust in God
The sermon emphasized the importance of gratitude and
unwavering trust in God, even in difficult times. Rev. Prof. Jacob shared his
personal testimony of how God instructed him to remain steadfast in faith and
obedience, leading to divine intervention in his life. This aligns with the
biblical principle that God’s promises are fulfilled when His people align
their hearts with His will.
Conclusion and Corporate Prayer
Rev. Prof. Jacob concluded the sermon with a powerful
corporate prayer, invoking God’s intervention and total recovery for the
congregants. He reminded the congregation that coming to church is not merely a
routine but an opportunity to draw near to God and experience His
presence.
Practical Applications
1. Persistent Prayer: Believers are encouraged to
remain steadfast in prayer, trusting that God will intervene in His perfect
timing.
2. Corporate Worship: The importance of corporate
prayer and praise was emphasized as a means of inviting God’s presence and
intervention.
3. Gratitude in Adversity: Christians are urged to
maintain an attitude of gratitude, even in challenging circumstances, as a
demonstration of faith in God’s promises.
4. Trust in God’s Word: Believers are called to trust
in God’s Word and His instructions, knowing that He is faithful to restore and
redeem.
Final Thoughts
Rev. Prof. James Nda Jacob’s sermon,
"Divine Intervention Unto Restoration," was
a timely reminder of God’s faithfulness and the power of prayer. Through
biblical narratives and personal testimony, he inspired the congregation to
trust in God’s ability to intervene in every situation and bring about total
restoration. The message left a lasting impact, renewing hope and faith in the
hearts of all present.
