Kogi State Government has announced plans to invest over ₦7 billion in revamping 88 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state's 21 local government areas. This initiative aims to upgrade over 150 institutions to functional level-2 health facilities, enhancing access to healthcare delivery across the state.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, noted that this project complements the ongoing upgrade of 70 PHCs, which are at various stages of completion. The governor emphasized that this investment demonstrates the administration's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens.
The project is part of the state government's strategic plan to improve access to quality healthcare services, with support from the World Bank. Governor Ododo expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing healthcare, especially for grassroots communities.
The governor urged contractors to maintain high professionalism standards, ensure timely completion within four months, and engage with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure social and environmental safeguards. He also called on local authorities to take ownership and protect personnel, equipment, and the completed PHCs.
This significant investment is expected to have a positive impact on the state's healthcare system, bringing quality healthcare services closer to the people.
