Marry me off to my old lover, Widow begs court By Adakoriko Adaviriku Adumaza

A widow, Aisha Zubairu, has taken her father, Zubairu Surajo, to a Shari'a Court in Kaduna State, seeking permission to marry her old lover, Aminu Saminu. Aisha, a divorcee, wants the court to affirm her right to choose a spouse, as she claims her father is refusing to allow her to marry Saminu due to an old grudge .

According to Aisha, she and Saminu were lovers before her father forced her into a marriage with her late husband. Now, her father is opposed to her marrying Saminu, threatening to take legal action against any family member who supports the union.

In his defense, Surajo claims that Saminu's parents disrespected his family in the past and did not follow proper Islamic procedures for seeking Aisha's hand in marriage. He also alleges that Saminu's parents previously rejected Aisha due to Saminu's perceived immaturity.

Despite his objections, Surajo stated that he would not interfere if the court decides to conduct the marriage, although he would not provide any support beyond good wishes. The judge has requested Surajo's presence at the next hearing, scheduled for January 29.
