NDIC advocates for inclusiong of deposit insurance module in ICAN examination
The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) is advocating for the inclusion of a deposit insurance module in the curriculum of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). This call was made by NDIC's Managing Director, Mr. Bello Hassan, during an engagement with ICAN members.
Hassan emphasized that this inclusion is essential to enhance understanding of the deposit insurance scheme among ICAN members, who represent a significant portion of potential bankers and bank examiners. He also stressed the need for ICAN members to uphold the highest values of integrity and professionalism in their duties as auditors.
The NDIC and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) rely on ICAN members' work as external auditors in their risk-based supervision of banks. ICAN President, Mr. Davidson Alaribe, commended NDIC for its commitment to integrity and transparency, which is critical in safeguarding depositors' funds.
Alaribe noted that this development is important for ensuring financial system stability. By incorporating deposit insurance into ICAN's curriculum, NDIC aims to deepen understanding of the scheme and promote financial stability.
