The Police Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Mr. Banji Lawal as a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) to represent the South-West Geopolitical Zone in the Force Management Team. Lawal takes over from Mr. Sylvester Alabi, who retired on December 31 as the DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department.

Prior to his appointment, Lawal served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Border Patrol at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. He has also held various positions, including Commandant of the Police Training College in Ikeja, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Ekiti, Abia, and Edo.

Lawal underwent written and oral examinations before the Commission and commended the Nigeria Police Force's Community Policing program. The Chairman of the PSC, Mr. Hashimu Argungu, congratulated Lawal on his elevation and encouraged him to make a meaningful impact in the Police Management Team.
