A State High Court in Lokoja has removed Alhaji Tijani Ahmed-Anaje as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, following a judgment delivered by Justice Umar Salisu on Monday. The court ordered Ahmed-Anaje to stop parading himself as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, citing irregularities in his appointment by former governor Yahaya Bello.

The lawsuit was filed by Daudu Adeku-Ojiah, Hussain Yusuf, and Abdulrahaam Suberu, who challenged the appointment process, arguing it was contrary to the Procedure of Ascension to the Throne of Ohinoyi of Ebira Land, Edict No 3 of 1997. The court upheld their prayers, declaring Ahmed-Anaje's appointment null and void.

The development comes after no fewer than 70 candidates vied for the stool of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, following the death of the previous Ohinoyi, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim, on October 29, 2024. The eligible contestants were from four of the five eligible districts in Kogi: Okewe, Ohema, Erika, Aganiye, and Adavi.

Reacting to the judgment, Governor Ahmed Ododo called for calm in the state, while the state Attorney-General, Muzi Abdullahi, announced plans to appeal the court verdict, expressing confidence in a reversal of the judgment.
