NNPC/Belemaoil JV sets to develop Kula community
The NNPC/Belemaoil Producing Limited Joint Venture has taken a significant step towards developing the Kula community in Rivers State. A 15-member Management Committee has been inaugurated to oversee this development, comprising five executive members, five non-executive members, and five Advisory Committee members. These individuals are professionals with proven track records, ensuring that the community receives the best possible support.
The inauguration of this committee is in line with the 2021 Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), specifically sections 247 and 249. The PIA aims to address the long-standing exploitation of host communities by oil exploration companies. The Management Committee will be responsible for *budget preparation, project management, supervision, and execution, while the Advisory Committee will focus on community development projects, project execution, monitoring, and security advice.
This development is a positive step towards empowering the Kula community, and it's worth noting that Belemaoil Producing Limited has been involved in various community development projects in the past, including the provision of potable water and power generating facilities.
