Worshippers at Foursquare Gospel Church, Wuse District Headquarters, Abuja, experienced a deeply moving service on Sunday as Rev. Dr. Babatunde Idowu delivered a powerful sermon titled “Planted By The Waters.” The message, which tied into the church’s August theme, coincided with Rev. Dr. Babatunde Idowu’s birthday, making the gathering both celebratory and spiritually charged.
The service opened with joyful praise led by the church choir, preparing hearts for the Word. Rev. Dr. Idowu’s sermon, rooted in Psalm 1:1–6, Jeremiah 18:1–6, and Isaiah 55:1–11, combined scriptural depth with practical exhortation, offering a roadmap for believers seeking growth, strength, and purpose.
Rooted and Fruitful
From Psalm 1:3, he painted the picture of a tree planted by rivers of water, drawing constant nourishment. “So it is with the believer who stays rooted in God’s word,” he said. He warned that without a steady connection to Scripture, spiritual dryness is inevitable, but with it comes stability and fruitfulness.
The Potter’s Transformation
Reflecting on Jeremiah 18, Rev. Dr. Idowu reminded the congregation that God, like the potter, can remold lives no matter how broken. “The horrible can be turned into the honorable. The broken can become beautiful,” he declared, urging believers to surrender to God’s shaping hand.
Beyond Wealth and Possessions
From Isaiah 55:1–3, he highlighted the futility of trying to satisfy spiritual thirst with material wealth. “Money can buy many things, but it cannot quench the soul’s thirst,” he cautioned. He challenged the church to confront spiritual hindrances such as unfaithfulness and laziness, encouraging a renewed hunger for God’s word.
Faith, Favour, and Enlargement
The preacher stressed that faith must move into action, through giving, service, and obedience. Citing Isaiah 55:4–5, he affirmed that God’s mercy brings favor and influence, even among nations previously unknown. “Like Jabez, you can pray for enlarged territory, and God will answer,” he said, inspiring hope for divine promotion and favor.
Listening to God Above All
Concluding with Isaiah 55:6–11, Rev. Dr. Idowu urged worshippers to put God’s instructions above all competing voices. “God’s word never fails; it always fulfills its purpose,” he emphasized, reminding the congregation that obedience is the path to true impact.
The message ended with the congregation singing “I Surrender All” and fervent prayers for business leaders, professionals, and young adults seeking marriage. The service closed on a note of renewed faith, with many visibly moved by the call to live anchored in God’s word.
For those present, the day was not just a sermon but an encounter.
