Foursquare Church Wuse Challenges Believers: Cultivate Lasting Legacy

By Dr. Afolabi Olajuwon

On the third Sunday of January 2026, the sanctuary of Wuse District Headquarters was charged with reverence and expectancy as congregants gathered for a service themed “Divine Honour and Dignity.” Senior Pastor and District Overseer Rev. Babatunde Idowu anchored the worship in Nehemiah 9:7–15 and delivered a sermon titled “Divinely Obtaining a Lasting Reputable Name,” urging believers to pursue a legacy shaped by obedience, remembrance and trust in God.

Rev. Idowu opened by tracing God’s covenantal faithfulness from Abraham through Israel’s deliverance, emphasizing that God’s honour rests upon those who remember and respond to His call. Citing Nehemiah’s recitation of the Abrahamic covenant (Neh. 9:7–8), he argued that an obedient life cultivates enduring reputation: “It depends on what you do while you are here,” he reminded the congregation, framing stewardship and moral responsibility as central to a godly legacy.

A sustained exposition of the Exodus narrative (Ex. 14:24–31 and related passages) illustrated how God intervenes to redeem and dignify His people. Rev. Idowu highlighted three pastoral applications:
i. Call on God consistently — even when circumstances seem to silence prayer.
ii. Heed godly counsel — so trials do not eclipse Scripture-rooted wisdom.
iii. Seek God continually — for turning from God forfeits divine guidance and peace.

He also drew on 1 Samuel 23:7–9, 25–28 to show God’s providential “way of escape” for those who trust Him, likening Israelites’ deliverance to contemporary experiences of divine rescue.

The service, conducted within the church’s January season of prayer and fasting, concluded with a one-hour marathon prayer led by Rev. Idowu. The congregation offered thanksgiving for past faithfulness, interceded for families and the nation, and sought divine direction for the year ahead.

Attendees described the service as both historically grounded and pastorally relevant, a call to live purposefully under God’s covenant. The sermon emphasized that true honour and dignity are not conjured by circumstance but earned through faithful obedience and remembrance of God’s work.
